Ukraine and NATO increase the pace of cooperation

On December 18, 2018, at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, the 27th meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Joint Working Group on Defense Technical Cooperation (SRGO) was held. And How claim in the press service of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, the parties agreed to intensify cooperation in 2019.



The delegation of Ukraine was headed by the First Deputy NSDC Oleg Gladkovsky, who is also a business partner of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The Alliance’s delegation was led by Camille Grand, Assistant Secretary General for Defense Investment, Director of the Department of Defense Investment, NATO’s International Secretariat.

The parties discussed the results of cooperation in 2018, including: public-private partnerships, reducing Ukraine’s dependence on Russian industry, and cooperation between Ukraine and NATO in the military-industrial complex. It was noted that Ukraine achieved II (highest) level in the codification system of NATO.

The practical aspects of cooperation within the framework of the programs and projects of the NATO Support and Supply Agency were examined. The practical results of the work of the NATO Trust Fund for the modernization of the management and communications system, as an example, the delivery of modern means of communication to the APU, are noted. A wide range of other projects has been agreed upon for future implementation.

Priority areas for Ukraine-NATO cooperation were identified. From the introduction of NATO technical standards and personnel training, to the modernization of ammunition storage security systems. Within the framework of the mentioned meeting, the enterprises of the Ukrainian defense industry even presented the developments in Ukraine made according to NATO standards.
