Putin: The world may face big problems behind the US exit from the INF Treaty

0
Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that if Washington nevertheless withdraws unilaterally from the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF Treaty), this will entail very serious consequences. We can even talk about the collapse of the entire security system in the world. The head of state made such a statement during a board meeting of the Ministry of Defense.

In fact, in the long term, we can talk about the degradation and even collapse of the entire architecture of arms control and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction

- Putin emphasized.

He pointed out that the American side is in a hurry to terminate this Treaty "on a far-fetched pretext." And while the United States itself has long violated it. As examples of Washington’s failure to fulfill its obligations, Putin cited the deployment of American sea-based systems in Romania and the plan for their deployment in Poland. This, he noted, is a direct violation of the INF Treaty, since installations that can be used to launch missiles at sea will now stand on the ground.

The President of the Russian Federation noted that there may be claims to this document, but it plays a stabilizing role. According to him, one could also discuss the issue of joining other states to the INF Treaty. But the US instead continues to unprovenly blame Russia and talk about withdrawing from the Treaty.

Putin also said that Moscow, in response to such actions, intends to take measures to strengthen its own security.

It should be noted that the US president put forward the idea of leaving the INF Treaty on October 20 of this year, and on December 4, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Russia did not comply with it. The United States threatens to begin the procedure for withdrawing from the Treaty if Moscow does not fulfill their requirements within 60 days.
