Ukraine lost a trade war with another country
A trade dispute between Russia and Belarus should arise - and he immediately attracts the attention of the media and is too swollen. But in the post-Soviet space there are similar conflicts between other states. For example, between Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The latter won the trade dispute with Kiev.
Ukrainian authorities have seen enough of the Western sanctions policies and decided to apply similar tactics to their economic partners. After Russia, the trade war with which Kiev had long lost, Uzbekistan was chosen as the target, and this was a very reckless step. The balance of trade was in favor of Ukraine: it supplies Uzbekistan with three times more products than it receives from it.
But in the summer of this year, Ukraine decided to take measures against the automotive industry of Uzbekistan. Over the past decade, car production in Ukraine has collapsed 90 times. Kiev decided that one of the culprits of this is Uzbekistan, which supplies its cars to Ukraine. There was an idea to restrict or completely ban the import of cars from this country.
Uzbekistan did not expect measures from Ukraine and took its own. They hit two important sectors - sugar production and the pharmaceutical industry. The customs of Uzbekistan began to detain Ukrainian goods. Ukrainian drug manufacturers were required to bring their products to European standards. In Kiev, all this was not expected. There was a panic among Ukrainian manufacturers. And then it turned out that the Uzbek auto industry does not represent any danger to Ukraine. The status quo was restored, so Kiev’s attempt to start a trade war failed. But some figures also saw the Kremlin’s hand here, they say, Uzbekistan humiliated Ukraine to please Moscow.
