New GRU Head Approved

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces plays an important role in strengthening the country's defense capabilities and therefore cannot remain without a leader even for a short time.





One of the sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense said IA TASS that the representative of the fleet, Vice-Admiral Igor Kostyukov, was appointed the new head of military intelligence for the first time in the history of Russia.

In particular, the agency's interlocutor said:

Vice Admiral Igor Kostyukov, Acting Chief of the GRU, was appointed to the post of head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces


And, although the Kremlin’s press service has not yet given any information, there is no reason to doubt the source’s message.

Igor Kostyukov was appointed acting head of the GRU in November 2018, immediately after the death of the head of the special service Igor Korobov.

In addition, the Vice Admiral acted as the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate earlier, replacing Igor Korobov during a serious and prolonged illness, which caused his death.

The new head of military intelligence, Hero of Russia, Vice Admiral Igor Kostyukov graduated from the Military Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, has vast professional experience, took part in the leadership of the military operation in Syria.
