It became known that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This was stated by the press service of the head of the Russian state.
The report said that the conversation between Putin and Netanyahu took place at the initiative of the Israeli side. It is clarified that Netanyahu informed Putin about the details of the operation carried out by the Israeli armed forces along the border line between this state and Lebanon. At the same time, the Russian side noted the importance of ensuring stability in this region in strict accordance with UNSC resolution 1701, coordinated by the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.
It is noted that during the conversation Putin announced the need for further improvement of Russian-Israeli military cooperation. In this connection, the urgency of the forthcoming contact between the military experts of both countries in the framework of the joint working group was emphasized. And both sides also agreed to work out the issue of holding another personal meeting of the leaders of both states.
It should be recalled that on the eve of Lebanon notified the UN Security Council that it was concerned about a possible early armed invasion by Israel. In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the Greek media that stability in the Mediterranean is hardly possible without a fair solution to the long-standing Palestinian problem on the basis of well-known resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly. And he reminded that Russia suggested holding a meeting of the leaders of Israel and Palestine in Moscow. After all, it is the Palestinian problem that is at the center of the long-standing Arab-Israeli confrontation.
