Chinese news agencies report that national shipbuilding managed to complete another technological breakthrough. We are talking about the fact that a shipyard in the 7 millionth Guangzhou (the capital of Guangdong province) managed to complete the latest Arc2018 ice class tanker, which was launched in June XNUMX.

On December 4, 2018, a special naming ceremony was held on the territory of Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI). Now it is called Boris Sokolov. Soon he will be transferred to the shipowner, the company Dynacom (Greece). It will be operated on the Yamal LNG project.

This tanker is capable of operating at temperatures below 50 degrees Celsius, which already makes it unique on the planet. The developers emphasize that before such tankers could transport gas condensate from the Arctic only in the summer. Now it will be possible to do this all year round.

Indeed, Boris Sokolov (project ARC 212) is capable of cutting ice 1,5 m thick (bow) and 1,8 m thick (aft) at a speed of 2 knots. The length of the vessel is 214 meters, its width is 34 meters, and the operational speed is 13 knots. The draft of the vessel is up to 12 m. It is capable of transporting 43,400 tons of condensate or 49,700 tons of oil. And this is really another success for the Chinese shipbuilding, since South Korea was the trendsetter until this time.
