The four-legged robot was "employed" for the first time on an offshore platform

Recently, more and more attention has been paid to robotics. If not so long ago, "mechanical assistants" were considered as purely experimental samples, now they are actively being introduced into various spheres of human activity.

The day before, ANYbotics launched a test program in which four-legged robots will inspect equipment at large industrial facilities. Such work requires a lot of effort and time from a person. For this reason, it was decided to entrust her with a robot named ANYmal.

The experiment will be conducted on TenneT’s energy platform in the North Sea, where a “mechanical assistant” will check the status of sensors, switches and other important electronic equipment. The advantage of the model chosen for testing is that the robot can easily move up stairs, open doors, and overcome obstacles such as conduits and pipes.

However, in addition to all the advantages listed above, ANYmal has a number of disadvantages. For example, the device will not cope with the verification of large sensors and will not be able to open switchboards and cabinets. True, the developers of ANYbotics promise to "refine" these features. But the robot will definitely not be able to fix the detected damage. Therefore, at the moment it will be used only as a diagnostic tool, designed to facilitate the work of a "living" specialist.
