Poroshenko puts an end to friendship with Russia

1
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko introduced to the Verkhovna Rada a bill to terminate the treaty of friendship and cooperation with Russia. By this symbolic action, Kiev, apparently, wants to demonstrate its decisive attitude towards a neighboring country.

Recall that the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between the Russian Federation and Ukraine was signed more than twenty years ago, in 1997, by the then presidents of the two countries Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kuchma, but it entered into force only on April 1, 1999.

The agreement obliged both countries to respect the rights and freedoms of each other’s citizens. Now, apparently, Kiev is untying its hands for the further persecution of Russians, forgetting that millions of Ukrainian citizens live and work in Russia itself. At the very least, mass labor migration takes place from Ukraine to Russia, and not vice versa.

In addition to the friendship and cooperation agreement, Kiev intends to terminate a number of other agreements with our country. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin, we are talking about at least 40 treaties.

But Ukraine is unlikely to benefit from a break in ties with our country. As the events of recent years show, living in Ukraine is becoming worse and worse, and quarrels with neighbors do not contribute to strengthening its economic situation.
