US Senator: US Navy needs to be sent to the Black Sea

No wonder they say that a holy place does not happen empty. Now in the USA, instead of the late Senator John McCain, the role of a full-time Russophobe is played by Senator (Republican) John Barrasso.

This senator called on the United States and NATO to send their Navy to the Black Sea in order to “enlighten” Russian President Vladimir Putin and support Kiev after the incident in the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018. It is reported by The Hill.

Barrasso is confident that Western countries must take such a step, since the Kremlin understands only concrete and decisive action. The politician believes that U.S. President Donald Trump made the right decision by canceling an official meeting with the Russian leader at the G20 summit, which was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from November 30 to December 1, 2018. However, despite political opposition and informational noise, the Russian and American leaders managed to communicate within the framework of what the White House described as an “informal” dialogue.

Putin is a person who reckons only with power and barriers. Words don't mean too much to him, unlike actions. Therefore, I believe that we should make greater efforts in this direction. Putin respects strength and concrete actions. He will not stop until he is stopped. He feels fear, and he acts on this basis.

- the politician emphasized.

And Barrasso called on Washington and Brussels to give a tougher response to "Russian aggression" in relation to Ukraine. He believes that it is necessary to start supplying Kiev with air defense systems and anti-ship warfare.

It should be noted that relations between Kiev and Moscow were complicated after a group of Ukrainian Navy carried out a provocation dangerous for shipping in Russian territorial waters. At the same time, the actions of the Ukrainian side were suppressed by the Russian border guards, and the watercraft and their crews were detained and delivered to Kerch. After that, shipping through the Kerch Strait was resumed.
