Martial law does not prevent Ukraine from getting stuck in IMF loans

We recently informed readers how the IMF planted Ukraine on the needle of trenches. And now, it became known that martial law does not prevent Kiev from further becoming stuck in the loans of this organization.

For example, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has already managed to have a telephone conversation, on this occasion, with IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. He discussed the next steps in the implementation of the stand-by “assistance” program for Kiev. Consideration of this issue should take place at the meeting of the IMF Executive Board in December 2018. This was reported by the press service of Poroshenko.

One can understand the concerns of the Ukrainian president, because the public has already announced that Kiev should not receive promises, but “real” money by the end of this year. At least $ 2,5 billion, which is very relevant before the impending presidential election scheduled for March 31, 2019.

At the same time, no specific information has been received from the IMF yet. But the press service of Poroshenko reports that the IMF has confirmed its willingness to provide Ukraine technical assistance in fiscal reform policy and tax administration. Without going into decryption and without revealing the amount.

It is clarified that during the conversation Poroshenko told Lagarde the main parameters of the budget of Ukraine for 2019. In response, Lagarde said that key indicators of the Ukrainian budget correspond to the parameters agreed with the fund. Then she went on to discuss the next steps that Ukraine must take in order to receive the necessary money.

During the conversation, it was separately emphasized that the introduction of martial law would not affect interaction with the IMF. In this context, Kristin Lagarde reaffirmed the IMF’s readiness to continue to closely cooperate with Ukraine and support our state on the path to implementing reforms.

It should be reminded that the Verkhovna Rada on November 26, 2018 approved Poroshenko’s decree on the introduction of martial law in ten regions of the country for a period of 30 days. This happened after the ships of the Ukrainian Navy staged a provocation in the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018.
