Kerch conflict hit the ruble

0
Events in the Sea of Azov negatively affected national currency. This morning, since the opening of exchange trading, a depreciation of the ruble against the dollar and the euro was noted. Indices of Russian exchanges Mosbirz and RTS are falling.

From the very first minute after the Mosbirzhi opened, the ruble fell 25 kopecks against the dollar and 36 kopecks against the euro.

This is happening against the background of a slight increase in oil prices, which traditionally has a stimulating effect on the Russian currency. The reason for this lies in the expectation by investors of the aggravation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the possible imposition of sanctions.

Almost nobody doubts that Russia will be blamed for the incident. Opinions differ only on whether the West will announce new sanctions in this connection and to what extent.

And geopolitical risks for investors hinder the demand for the assets of Russian enterprises.

The most noticeable was a drop in the assets of Sberbank of Russia, RusAl, Alros, as well as enterprises of the fuel and energy complex.

Given the fact that the conflict around the Sea of Azov can have far-reaching consequences, it should be expected that difficult times await our national currency.
