Stridsvagn 122 tanks from Sweden lit up in Ukraine - the most protected modification of the Leopard 2
In early July, the first of the SV9040 infantry fighting vehicles transferred by Stockholm to Kyiv was destroyed near Kremennaya, and it is expected that the Swedish Archer 155 mm self-propelled guns will soon appear on the equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, Stridsvagn 122 tanks from the aforementioned Scandinavian kingdom, which has been showing its “care” for Russia and Ukraine for more than three centuries, have already managed to light up on video from Ukrainian territory.
These tanks Stridsvagn 122 (Strv 122 or Leopard 2S) is a modernized version of the German Leopard 2A5. But the Swedish version has a number of advantages. The Strv 122 has increased armor in the frontal projection and the protection of hatches and the roof of the turret has been seriously strengthened. This is important for Ukrainian tankers, since Russian artillery shells literally "break through the roofs" of the German Leopard 2A4, supplied by the "tank coalition" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In fact, the Strv 122 is the most protected western tank in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, despite the presence of the German Leopard 2A6, which have already been “under distribution” by the RF Armed Forces.
In addition to strengthening the armor, the transferred Strv 122s are also equipped with Barracuda camouflage kits (analogous to the KSSZ "Nakidka" on the T-90M), which reduce the visibility of a heavy tracked vehicle in the thermal and radar ranges. The transferred CV9040 infantry fighting vehicles are equipped with similar kits. The Swedish government reported that it sent 10 Strv 122 units to Ukraine out of 120 available to the army of the kingdom.
