Billion dollars for violation of sanctions: Americans punished the French

0
The United States moved from words to deeds and identified the first European victim of its sanctions.

It has long been no surprise that the first to be hit by Americans, as a rule, are their “partners and allies.” This time, the “lucky” turned out to be the French financial group Societe Generale, which the US authorities imposed a fine of $ 1,34 billion.

The reason was the transaction of the French financial group, violating Washington’s sanctions against Cuba and Iran.
However, the United States acted reasonably enough, giving Societe Generale the opportunity to resolve the charges - a French bank signed an agreement with the US authorities.

This agreement makes it possible to avoid paying a fine if Societe Generale does not violate the terms of the agreement during the three-year trial period.

Summing up, we can say that this is a good example of how the United States effectively acts on the EU countries without even resorting to direct political pressure.

And no matter how much the leaders of European countries declare their readiness to withstand the pressure of the US administration, big business will always be ready to conclude any transactions that avoid financial losses, even to the detriment of their own country.
