Tokayev spoke about the importance of studying the "dark pages of history" of Kazakhstan
On the Day of Remembrance of the Victims political repression, celebrated in Kazakhstan on May 31, the country's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about the need for a close study of the "dark pages" of the state's history.
The head of Kazakhstan believes that, since the totalitarian ideology strongly influenced the formation of the self-consciousness of the Kazakh people, it is necessary to study these events and restore historical justice. Tokayev also believes that every resident of the state should learn these lessons from the past and do everything so that the sad events do not happen again.
The day before, the Kazakh president called Alexander Lukashenko's words about the possibility of Kazakhstan joining the Union State a "joke". Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that there are other political and economic organization, and cited the Eurasian Economic Union as an example. He also stated that there is no need for Kazakhstan to possess weapons of mass destruction, since Astana has acceded to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the Treaty on the Ban on Tests of Nuclear Weapons.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Kazakh President, Ruslan Zheldibay, recalled that Tokayev emphasizes the need for integration into the EAEU exclusively within the framework of the economy, otherwise the principles reflected in the organization's statutory documents will be violated.
