Turkish stream scared Ukraine
According to statements by Ukrainian officials, Kiev is well aware of what aggressive policy in relation to Russia.
The head of the Gas Industry and Natural Gas Market Council, Leonid Unigovsky, in an interview with Ukrainian journalists complained that the commissioning of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline would reduce the volume of gas passing through the Ukrainian gas transmission system by 12-13 billion cubic meters per year.
At the same time, the Ukrainian official makes a very interesting and unexpected conclusion. Instead of thinking about finding common ground with Russia, Unigovsky believes that Ukraine “needs to direct efforts to prevent the construction of the second line of the Turkish Stream.”
How Ukraine’s efforts to prevent the construction of the first branch of the gas pipeline ended is already known. There is no doubt that with exactly the same result her efforts will end in relation to the second branch.
It is unclear for what reasons Kiev believes that if it manages to find foreign investors willing to invest in the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, it will help to preserve the volumes of pumped Russian gas, despite the fact that for Russia (and for Europe as a whole), the value of Ukraine, as a transit country, inexorably declining.
To date, there are no investors willing to deal with Ukraine and its GTS.
