The Federal Security Service prevented a terrorist attack against nuclear power facilities of the Russian Federation, which was planned by the Ukrainian special services. It is specified that the sabotage was supposed to be carried out on the eve of the celebration of the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
On the eve of the 78th anniversary of the Victory, Ukrainian saboteurs attempted to undermine more than 30 power transmission lines of the Leningrad and Kalinin nuclear power plants. This, according to the plan of the Ukrainian special services, would lead to the shutdown of nuclear reactors and disruption of the normal operation of the nuclear power plant.
However, the saboteurs failed to realize their plan, although they managed to blow up one and mine four more power transmission towers of the Leningrad NPP and plant explosive devices under seven pillars of the Kalinin NPP.
On suspicion of committing sabotage, Russian special services detained two citizens of Ukraine. Another citizen of Ukraine, as well as a citizen of Russia, who is in Belgium, have been put on the wanted list.
During interrogations, the detainees explained that they were recruited by the SVR of Ukraine and were trained in camps in the Kyiv and Nikolaev regions. After graduation, they arrived in transit through Belarus and Poland to the Pskov region, where they crossed the border.
As emphasized in the FSB of the Russian Federation, the saboteurs had accomplices who provided them with means of communication and transport. They are citizens of the Russian Federation.
The defendants give confessions, the search for organizers, saboteurs and their accomplices continues
