Disclosed a scheme for the supply of sanctions products to Russia
In one of the Belgian media published material that describes the scheme of deliveries to Russia prohibited by counter-sanctions products.
We are talking about fruits from Belgium and the Netherlands, in particular, pears. The Belgian newspaper De Morgen in its publication relied on data from the Dutch publication De Volkskrant. The article says that “sanctioned” fruits and vegetables smuggled onto the shelves of Russian supermarkets. At the same time, Russian importers buy prohibited products through countries such as Belarus and Lithuania.
Then, with the help of corrupt sanitation workers, they manage to buy fake certificates. Thanks to these documents, the origin of the goods remains hidden. Fruits enter stores under the guise of imported from African countries.
Judging by the investigation conducted by De Volkskrant employees, Belgian and Dutch businessmen selling pears in this way manage to make a profit of approximately 56 million euros per year. The volume of contraband cargo is about 70 thousand tons for a total value of 240 million euros.
Russia was forced to introduce counter-sanctions in August 2014 as a response. This happened after the West introduced restrictive measures in relation to Moscow in connection with the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula. According to these counter-sanctions, the import of vegetables, fruits, meat and dairy products from the European Union into the Russian territory is prohibited. Despite this, the business is finding ways to get around the bans.
