The elimination of the Donbass denied

Russian policy sharply criticized the words of the special representative of the US State Department on Ukraine Kurt Volker, who actually called for the liquidation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

Speaking at a discussion in the analytical center of the Hudson Institute, Walker said that the DPR and LPR “should disappear,” since there is no place for them in the constitutional structure of Ukraine. He also believes that the existence of these Republics is contrary to the Minsk agreements.

It is not surprising that this American diplomat, like many of his other colleagues, did not fail to “nod” toward Moscow. He called the DPR and LPR “entities that were created by Russia in order to help mask the role of the Russian Federation and strengthen the ongoing conflict.”

Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, responding to the words of the representative of the State Department, stressed that the United States is biased in this matter:

This statement exhaustively confirms that Mr. Volcker and the American side as a whole are not, in the context of the crisis in southeastern Ukraine, an objective and impartial mediator whose task is to realistically resolve the conflict

Another Russian senator, chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy, Alexei Pushkov, on this occasion, in his blog recalled that the People's Republics are part of the Minsk process:

US special envoy for the disruption of the Minsk agreements Volker demands no less than the liquidation of the LPR and the DPR. I forgot, it is clear that they are part of the Minsk agreements. And without their consent, there will be no peacekeepers in the Donbass. With this approach, the prospect of Volcker's mission tends to zero

Volcker and representatives of the Luhansk People's Republic criticized. The acting Foreign Minister of the LPR, Vladislav Deiniy, in an interview with RT correspondent considered the words of the American diplomat void:

Walker is absolutely not guided by the documents signed in Minsk. That is, clause 11 of comprehensive measures, which precisely provides for the creation of constitutional conditions for Donbass to acquire a special status, is an empty phrase for him. Accordingly, all his qualifications end there.

Earlier, the contact group in Minsk managed to reach an agreement that, starting from March 5, another truce is being established in the territory of Donbass. This is already the 19th attempt to achieve a complete ceasefire. But, despite all these efforts, almost every day the Ukrainian army continues to shell the territories of the DPR and LPR.

As for Volker’s statements about the need to “disband” the People’s Republics, he actually pushes the Ukrainian side to continue these shelling with such statements. Thus, he emphasizes that Washington’s policy is not aimed at achieving peace, but at continuing the war, the ultimate goal of which should be the suppression of the republics by force. At the same time, the fate of the civilians of Donbass does not concern the representative of the state, which at any opportunity begins to hide behind “the suffering of women and children” (which, in particular, can be observed when discussing the situation in Syria).
