The authorities of the Kaliningrad region commented on the decision of Poland from May 9, 2023 to call the city of Kaliningrad Krulevets. The head of the press service of the regional government, Dmitry Lyskov, called it an insinuation, reports TASS.
Our city has a name, the official toponym is Kaliningrad. Everything else is just innuendo
- said the representative of the regional authorities.
With the same success, Lyskov believes, Gdansk can be called Danzig, and the Republic of Poland - the Kingdom of Poland. He urged adherence to official toponyms, as Russia and, in particular, the Kaliningrad region do.
The decision of the Polish authorities to rename Kaliningrad in their own way was commented by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov. He called this step no longer Russophobia, but a process bordering on insanity, TASS wrote.
The Kremlin spokesman recalled that throughout history, Poland from time to time slips into “this madness of its hatred of the Russians.” Moreover, events are repeated over the course of centuries - from the XNUMXth-XNUMXth centuries, and even earlier.
On the eve of the commission for the standardization of geographical names outside Poland, acting under the chief surveyor of the country, made a decisionthat only the Polish name Krulewiec will be used for the Russian Kaliningrad. The region is also recommended to be called Krulevetskaya.
The Polish authorities considered this name “traditional” for the Russian city, and its Russian name was “artificial, not connected with either the city or the region.”
