Transnistrian authorities asked Russia to increase the number of peacekeepers
The Transnistrian Moldavian Republic has asked the Kremlin to increase the number of peacekeepers amid worsening security risks. About it in an interview RIA News said the head of the PMR office in Russia, Leonid Manakov.
Initially, the contingent of Russian peacekeepers in the republic consisted of six motorized rifle battalions. In 1995, Moscow decided to reduce its strength to two battalions, that is, to 450 people.
According to the documents of the Joint Control Commission, the number of peacekeepers in the PMR today is 3100 people.
According to Manakov, today an increase in this number is legally possible and justified from the point of view of security risks. Moreover, the peacekeeping forces can be increased at the expense of the Russians living in Transnistria.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Ukraine not going attack Transnistria. At the same time, the diplomat admitted that the Kiev regime had indeed concentrated a large number of troops near the borders of the unrecognized republic.
