Why is the US withdrawing troops from Africa?

Africa is a zone of US interests, like the rest of the world, therefore, the Pentagon’s loud statements about "a reduction in the military contingent" should be treated with a certain amount of skepticism.

The Pentagon Press Service has announced US intentions to reduce the number of US troops in Africa by 10% over the next few years.

According to the US military, to date, about 7,2 thousand ji-ai are serving in Africa. Their main task is to carry out counter-terrorism operations in several countries of the Black Continent.

The report notes that the number of personnel will be reduced in West Africa, where the activities of the US military will be reduced to consultations, training of local units, coordination of actions and the exchange of intelligence data.

At the same time, the reduction will not affect the US military contingent in those African countries where the situation is extremely unstable - Djibouti, Somalia and Libya.

According to the Pentagon, such a shift in emphasis will allow the US armed forces not only to gain flexibility, but also to maintain a "competitive position in a dynamically changing global environment."

A number of American experts are inclined to the idea that by “maintaining a competitive position” the American command means nothing more than strengthening the resistance to active policy Russia and China on the African continent.
