Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning chuckled when asked if the Celestial Empire recognizes Ukraine's sovereignty. The incident took place at a press conference at the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Will China recognize Ukraine as a sovereign state?
one of the journalists asked.
The question of China's recognition of the sovereignty of Ukraine was asked to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Celestial Empire for a reason. Recall that on the eve of the Chinese Ambassador to Paris, Liu Shaye, in an interview with a French television channel, questioned the status of post-Soviet countries in international law.
In addition, the Chinese diplomat said that the Crimean peninsula, the return of control over which the Kiev regime so dreams of, has always been Russian.
This statement caused a flurry of indignation not only in the post-Soviet states themselves, but also in the countries of Western Europe, as well as in the United States. The media called Liu Shaye's revelations a cold shower for the West.
The French Foreign Ministry said it took note of Liu Shaye's remarks with concern and asked Beijing to clarify whether the words of the Chinese ambassador to France reflect the official position of the PRC.
It should be noted that official Beijing called the words of its ambassador in Paris the personal opinion of a diplomat. However political Western elites considered this clarification to be just a play on words.
That is why at a press conference at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, journalists decided to clarify Beijing's position on Ukraine's sovereignty. The reaction of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Middle Kingdom better than any words demonstrates the position of the country on this issue.
