The accident occurred in Okinawa Prefecture near the island of Kitadaito, 250 kilometers from the city of Naha. The accident happened today at 6.45 Moscow time. The plane took off from the deck of the aircraft carrier of the US Navy "Ronald Reagan" and made a training flight. The US military reported that the crash was due to technical problems. It was later suggested that the cause was engine malfunction.

Both pilots managed to eject. A US naval helicopter was involved in search and rescue operations. The pilots were saved. Now their health status is assessed as satisfactory.

It should be noted that recently there have been more frequent cases of accidents and non-combat losses in the armed forces of NATO countries.

The F / A 18 Hornet carrier-based bomber fighter was developed by the American company McDonnell Douglas back in the 70s of the last century. Today, it is considered the main combat aircraft of the US Navy. It is in service not only with the Americans, but also in a number of European and Asian countries.
