15 billion for the New Suez: will the government find money for the Northern Sea Route?
The benefits that Russia will receive from the Northern Sea Route are so obvious that the country's government is ready to seek huge funds for the development of the project.
As follows from the amendments that the Russian government introduced to the second reading of the federal budget law for the next three years (2019-2021), it is proposed to increase funding for the Northern Sea Route project in terms of the development of the main infrastructure by 15 billion rubles.
Due to the allocated funds, it is planned to increase capital investments in state property that will be erected along the entire NSR route.
The consideration of the document in the Duma is scheduled for November 14. The lower house of parliament received the recommendations of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes, this draft federal budget for 2019-2021 was adopted in the second reading.
According to experts, the volume of cargo transportation on the Northern Sea Route will grow from year to year, and the route itself in its significance may become the “new” Suez Canal on the route from Southeast Asia to Europe.
If in 2017 this volume amounted to 10,7 million tons, then in 2025 it should reach about 80 million tons.
