Russia and India want to launch a cargo flow through the Northern Sea Route

Russia and India are discussing the creation of an alternative route for the delivery of goods through the Northern Sea Route. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East.

This issue became the main topic of negotiations between the head of the ministry Alexei Chekunkov and the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India Sarbananda Sonoval. The meeting took place in India.

The creation of an alternative route for the delivery of goods from India to Europe was discussed - not along the southern or western routes, but along the eastern route, through the NSR, using both Russian and Indian port facilities

- the press service said in a statement.

It is especially emphasized that the cost of shipping a container from Vladivostok to India is one third lower than shipping from Moscow.

The route through the Northern Sea Route may be of interest to New Delhi in terms of field development, as well as in order to optimize supplies. In addition, the Suez Canal, which is the main artery connecting Asia and Europe, is often overloaded.

Former Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on amendments to the law "On the internal sea waters of the Russian Federation", which practically closed the Northern Sea Route for foreign ships. According to the adopted changes, only one foreign ship, whether military or civilian, can be in the waters of the Northern Sea Route.

The Northern Sea Route has been promoted for 5 years.
and what prevented you from actually launching it, and not "discussing" it now?
