What will the termination of the INF Treaty lead to? Expert opinion

1
The US withdrawal from the short and medium-range missile treaty (DRMSD) became a cause for alarm among international experts, including American ones.

So, according to Laura Holgate, vice president of the American nonprofit organization Initiative to Reduce Nuclear Threats (NTI), with the current trend due to the US withdrawing from the treaty, the possibility of objective arms control will disappear in the world within five years.

It is difficult to disagree with the opinion of the American expert. The United States will not stop after leaving the INF Treaty, and the next treaty, which will cease to exist, will be the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT).

And when there are no key agreements, the very possibility of arms control will disappear, which will start the arms race and will significantly increase the likelihood of an accidental nuclear conflict.

Laura Holgate also noted that the US withdrawal from the DRMSD gives Russia a reason for retaliatory action in the form of deploying its own short and medium-range missiles on the border with Europe. And this in turn will provoke discontent and a split in the ranks of the US allies.

Summing up, we can say that the “cowboy games” of the American president with agreements that are extremely important for the whole world will lead to far-reaching consequences. And it’s not at all a fact that the United States will benefit from this.

The United States itself has long violated this treaty in Europe. It was Russia that had to raise the question of the violation of the US treaty when they installed their installations in Romania. Therefore, this US withdrawal from the treaty should untie our hands.
