Europe is not ready to freeze due to the possibility of a relapse of a new “gas war” with shut-off valves. In addition, everyone understands that very soon Nezalezhnaya will require European investments to modernize its gas transmission system. Under the conditions of Ukrainian corruption, any financial injections will disappear in this financial black hole.
The problem of vicious dependence of Europe and Russia on an unreliable transit country represented by Ukraine could be solved by the Nord Stream-2 project, whose total cost is estimated at 9,5 billion euros. The extent to which European countries need guarantees against Ukrainian gas blackmail is evidenced by the list of project participants - OMV and Wintershall, Shell, Engie and Uniper. European partners are ready to finance half the cost of a new gas pipeline from Russia.
Currently, Nord Stream-2 is under political pressure from Washington - for this, the American "partners" passed the law CAATSA, and Brussels. The position of Germany on the project will be important, but so far only technical government and the issue is in limbo. The governments of Germany, Austria and Italy, which are currently being attacked by "General Frost," I understand that Nord Stream-2 is fully in the national interests of their countries. Anti-Russian propaganda claims that Nord Stream-2 reduces Europe’s security from Russia, but in reality it will work for it.
