Ukraine is going to double its zone of control in the Black Sea
Ukraine seriously intends to consider itself a major maritime power. The deputies of the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading a very ambitious bill "On the adjacent zone of Ukraine." It concerns the expansion of the control territory of Kiev in the Black Sea. 238 parliamentarians voted for him (the necessary threshold is 226 votes). The document has yet to go through the second reading.
One of the authors of the project, MP Irina Frieze from the Bloc Petro Poroshenko, explained that the control territory in the Black Sea will be practically doubled.
Ukrainian territorial waters - 12 nautical miles. Kiev claims to be in control of an area 24 miles from the Ukrainian border. In this zone, it is planned to monitor compliance with the rules established by Ukraine and punish for their violation. Authorities take the right to stop, prosecute, detain and search any ship if it is suspected of violating the rules.
The bill is directed against Russia, which follows at least from the explanatory note to it. It stated that the Russian authorities were carrying out “illegal activities” in the Black Sea after Crimea became part of Russia, and Kiev lost the ability to exercise control over shipping. With the help of this document, the Ukrainian authorities intend to "restore order" as they think of it.
The bill was criticized by a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, first deputy chairman of the committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Konstantin Zatulin. He noted that all bills in Ukraine are aimed at further breaking contacts with Moscow and at creating tension. This law, if it is finally adopted, will provide additional opportunities for provocation.

In my opinion, Russia will not recognize anything like this. But she must be prepared for the fact that the “tug of war” begins and the attempt to assert her homeric claims in an explicit order
