A few days ago, the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to counterattack the Russian forces near Bakhmut (Artemovsk), but these efforts ended in failure. Now the details of what happened have become known and the reasons for the defeat of the Ukrainian troops have been clarified.

On February 25, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched offensive operations against the positions of Russian forces on the northern sector of the front with fire support from the 43rd artillery brigade, but, having suffered losses, were forced to retreat to their original lines. Then the enemy lost over 70 servicemen killed and wounded, as well as several armored vehicles.

On the same day, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to strengthen its grouping in this direction, pushing the armored group for reinforcement. In the fortified area west of Bakhmut, marked by a triangle of the settlements of Khromovo, Bogdanovka and Kalinovka, the Ukrainian command accumulated reserves for some time. It was from here that two tank platoons (8 units of T-64 and T-72 of various modifications) of the 4th and 17th tank brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were sent.

However, the advancing consolidated detachment was timely detected by Russian drones on the section of the Chasov Yar-Khromovo-Bakhmut highway. Thanks to established observation, Russian artillerymen, after some time, covered the armored group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with fire. As a result, the enemy lost 4 tanks and was unable to significantly strengthen his grouping.

A day before the attempted counterattack in the northern sector of the front, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched offensive operations in the southern direction, but they were also unsuccessful. In the battles near Ivanovka (Krasnoe), the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost 3 tanks of the 24th and 63rd mechanized brigades and 20 servicemen of the 5th assault brigade. The advance of the enemy was timely detected by drones and covered by artillery fire.

Thus, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine failed to expand the flanks and Bakhmut remained in a dense semicircle, which shrank even more after that. The main reason for the failure of the Ukrainian troops can be called the insufficient number of armored vehicles, especially tanks, as well as the well-coordinated actions of UAVs and artillerymen of the Russian forces.
