The Americans failed the first time to shoot down an unidentified object over Lake Huron

The US military failed the first time to hit an unidentified object in the sky over Lake Huron. Fox News reported this with reference to unnamed officials.

According to the channel, the first missile fired by the US military at an object in the air over Lake Huron on the US-Canada border missed its target. Fox News claims that the AIM-9 Sidewinder guided missile attack was carried out by the fourth-generation F-16 fighter.

As the head of the US Northern Command, Glen Vanherke, later explained, aiming at the object was difficult due to its small size. As a result, it was decided to use the AIM-9X Sidewinders missile with infrared guidance. This option allows the ammunition to detect the temperature difference between the object and the environment. However, even he could not hit the target.

In each case, we have taken extreme care to limit potential collateral damage.

Glen Vanherke explained.

Recall that the object destroyed on the border of the United States and Canada was a small metal balloon, on which there was an unknown cargo. The Pentagon said that after being hit by a missile, it slowly sank into the water.

It should be noted that last week the Joint Command of the Aerospace Defense of North America recorded three unidentified objects. Two of them were shot down in US airspace, another was destroyed over Canadian territory.
