The accident of the "Union": the cause is established

In the course of its work, the Soyuz-FG rocket accident investigation commission established that this led to an emergency during launch.

The executive director of Roscosmos for manned programs Sergei Krikalev said that the cause of the accident was the malfunction of the first and second stage separation sensor. This conclusion was a confirmation of one of the versions put forward at the beginning of the investigation.

A malfunction of the sensor led to an incorrect divergence of the side blocks of the first stage and the impact of one of the blocks on the fuel tank of the second stage, which led to its explosion.

Recall that on October 11, at the launch of the Soyuz-FG launch vehicle, which was supposed to put into orbit the Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft with an international crew of Russian Alexei Ovchinin and American Nick Hague, the accident occurred during the separation of the first and second stage.

The crew was successfully evacuated to the ground in a special rescue capsule. The American astronaut was impressed by the Russian “engineering miracle”, which allowed the crew to stay alive.

The results of the commission will be discussed at a press conference to be held tomorrow, November 1, at the Mission Control Center.
