In Poland, they are trying to stop the avalanche of layoffs from the army
The plan to create a 300-strong army is a priority for Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak. However, problems arose during its implementation, writes the Polish edition Niezalezny Dziennik Polityczny.
According to available information, in 2023 the Polish Army (Wojsko Polskie) will leave up to 12 thousand professional soldiers. The scale could be even greater if the Ministry of Defense did not introduce unprecedented changes in the wages of military personnel, which will increase significantly from March.
The former head of the Ministry of Defense, a member of parliament from the Civic Platform, Tomasz Semoniak, believes that the response of the Polish military department to the process has become belated. In 2022, 12 servicemen left the ranks of the Polish army.
The most experienced people leave the army. We are talking about, among other things, special forces soldiers, sailors, pilots, rear servicemen and other military specialists. It will take many years to train new ones.
- says the publication.
Thus, the Polish Armed Forces can lose up to 10% of personnel annually, and it takes a lot of effort to stop this avalanche of layoffs, not to mention attracting new people. The budget bill for the current year, adopted by the government, provides for record defense spending of PLN 97,4 billion, inflation of 9,8% and indexation of military salaries.
