The temperature of a running Leopard 2 engine will make it visible to any thermal imager

17

Western experts continue to talk about the low efficiency of tanks transferred to Ukraine in the realities of the conflict. In particular, a number of experts believe that the high temperature of a running engine will make it easy to detect tanks at a great distance.

Leopard 2 tanks are equipped with MB 873 Ka-501 diesel engines, which provide high power, up to 1500 hp. with., but at the same time warm up to 580 degrees. This will make it possible to detect combat vehicles even with the help of the simplest and most outdated thermal imaging sights of the Agave type, developed in the 80s of the last century.

In modern sighting systems, which are equipped with the upgraded T-72BM3 and T-90M, the detection range is several kilometers in all weather conditions.

Military experts also note that the 62-ton machine will lose in maneuverability on the battlefield to the 45-ton Russian T-90M. To redeploy Leopard 2 and Abrams, the Ukrainian military will probably have to reinforce bridges over water barriers or build reinforced pontoon crossings, which will slow down the movement of tank columns.

At the moment, several European countries have agreed on the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks. At the same time, various modifications of tanks are in service with the EU states, which will complicate the work of supply services and maintenance of combat vehicles in the field.

If Western tanks suck, why is there such a commotion?

a commotion because in reality there are few means against NATO tanks, but so that the people do not ask from the strategists and stripes they hang noodles on him (the people)

You mean "a little"? These are ordinary tanks, most likely not the newest, they will be afraid of everything the same as our tanks, 125mm guns are sufficient for destruction, mines are just the same, they break through RPGs into the side and roof, for artillery and aviation in general tidbits. A commotion due to a news story, they will yell for a couple of months, they will get used to it and forget it.

Why don't you throw hats on? It's not for the author to fight tanks. Such authors are akin to deputies, they also talk a lot, but there is no one to answer. They are too lazy to even submit declarations. Let ordinary business try not to submit any documents - they will immediately throw it in.

Tanks are hot, hard to repair... Phew, don't worry.
We’ll just regroup to more advantageous positions behind the Kerch bridge, and to guarantee it ourselves ...

And the rest of the tanks have engines that are cold?
And at the Abrams, the gas in the turbine reaches 1198 Celsius, and immediately flies out. It doesn't seem to cool down quickly.
Our T-80s are unlikely to differ much from Abrams in this regard, except for a smaller emission due to the lower turbine power.
Can you imagine what a chic trail behind them on the thermal imager? You will fall in love!
And how do other diesel tanks differ from the Leopard? The engines are cooled by outside air. Warmed up in the cooling system, the air is again thrown out and also gives a thermal plume.
Well, the body of any tank is warmed up from behind. Recall the hood of your favorite car.
Ours just have less power, but the difference is not fundamental.
All characteristics must be given in comparison. Otherwise, it's nothing to talk about.

the Ukrainian military will probably have to reinforce bridges over water barriers or build reinforced pontoon crossings, ...

How does the author imagine it? Put additional metal structures on the pontoon? To drown him faster? All non-brothers have Soviet pontoons, for Soviet armored vehicles, as a rule, up to 60 tons. But the carrying capacity of the crossing does not mean that the entire passport load is at one point. If 80 tons, then this is a tank and a couple of infantry fighting vehicles or several trucks. If you launch a tank weighing 70 tons, then it will either crush the pontoon or tear the mount.
And ordinary bridges for the same armored vehicles. Should I add additional plates? Are the bases designed for this?
Not to mention the fact that the transport infrastructure there has not been repaired for 30 years. Bridges will not withstand the calculated loads.
And our tank designers in the USSR were constantly strained so that the tank could be transported by an ordinary railway. platform, cross over existing pontoon crossings built where necessary
, bridges of the required carrying capacity.
Logistics will be a big problem. As well as with repair, maintenance, communication.

Any tank is visible in the thermal imager at night from 2 km. The trouble is that the Russian Federation has not learned how to make good thermal imagers in 50 years. Where they stand - products of the Peleng Design Bureau (Minsk) with a receiver from France. And they are not everywhere.

The thermal imaging matrix was made in 2016.
in 2021, deliveries of Sych-3PS to the border service began.

But what's the difference, the optics are enough to determine what the target is, it's a matter of comfort, there is soap in the old thermal packs, but one fig is visible

The danger is that these tanks can break through our 13-kilometer echelon line of defense with their onslaught, and these are minuses in manpower and means. Then the DRG will go, gain a foothold and create a springboard for the main parts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Next, do you need to tell? But the number of tank "peremogi" is very small against ours. Most are loaded manually, not some tanks can interact with others, there is no air support. Khokhols if they learn to manage, then there will be no experience. In short, they can create trouble, but this is temporary. Victory will be ours.

It remains to get thermal imagers. Remember where they put them, in which warehouse. Or maybe they gave someone a vilification. Although, you may not get it. Our brave boys will take it themselves. At the enemy. Or they won't. In general, do not interfere, we are making plans.
