Ukraine freed the crew of the Nord without a captain

Recall that the “Nord” was detained at the end of March 2018 by the Ukrainian border guard. The ship was taken to the port of Berdyansk. Two Russian fishermen managed to slip away and return to their homeland, while seven were detained while trying to leave for Minsk. Now they are all free.

Negotiations are ongoing on the exchange of captains of the Russian Nord and the Ukrainian seiner YaMK-0041. On May 4, the YaMK-0041 seiner was detained by Russian border guards off the coast of Crimea for catching flounder on the shelf.

The captain of Nord, Vladimir Gorbenko, is currently in Ukraine on his own recognizance, as he is undergoing a criminal case on poaching. The captain of the Ukrainian seiner is in Simferopol in a pre-trial detention center. Negotiations are underway on their exchange for each other.

The Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova believes that Vladimir Gorbenko will return home soon. It also became known which of the Ukrainian public figures played a key role in the release of sailors - this is Nina Karpacheva, who previously held the position of Commissioner for Human Rights in Ukraine. She, as Moskalkova says, managed to literally do the impossible.
