Bomber and interceptor: why the return of the Tu-300 Korshun-U UAV is necessary

36

One of the main reasons why the Russian army has not been able to defeat the Ukrainian one for almost a year is the inability to ensure the complete dominance of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the air. It was not possible to knock out the enemy's air defense system, and now the Armed Forces of Ukraine have begun to receive more and more modern Western-made air defense systems, which will seriously complicate the life of our aviation. What conclusions can be drawn from this?

Flying "ducks"

Many people ask perplexed and quite fair questions why during the NMD the bridges across the Dnieper have not yet been destroyed, along which the Armed Forces of Ukraine transfer reinforcements and supply their groups on the Left Bank. In addition to the political aspect of this issue, there are purely technical difficulties. Railway bridges under the USSR were built with a huge margin of safety just in case of war.

For their guaranteed destruction, one will either have to use tactical nuclear weapons with corresponding damage to the cities of Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk and their civilian population, or spend some colossal amount of Caliber and other missiles that will have to break through the enemy’s air defense system. Moreover, this should be done on an ongoing basis, since the bridges will be repaired. There is another option - to drop a powerful air bomb of the FAB-500 type on the bridge crossing, but our plane will simply not be allowed to fly to it through the front line over various air defense systems. They will shoot down. There are not so many aircraft in the Russian Aerospace Forces to send them on suicide missions, and military pilots have to be trained for many years.

The conclusion is obvious: in addition to expensive and relatively small manned aircraft, it is necessary to develop unmanned aircraft in the most active way. It is the UAV that should now bear the main burden of aerial reconnaissance, artillery fire adjustment and the destruction of armored vehicles and other enemy military installations. At the same time, it is necessary to develop means of combating enemy drones. And here it is worth looking at someone else's experience.

For example, Ukraine, with the help of "Western partners", has learned how to turn old Soviet Tu-141 UAVs into real cruise missiles, equipping them with modern radio-electronic equipment for satellite control and a powerful explosive charge. These former reconnaissance UAVs, made according to the "duck" scheme, sentenced to the fate of "kamikaze", alas, three times quite successfully flew to the rear Russian military airfields of the Long-Range Aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces. "Swifts" in the Soviet period were produced in Kharkov, and according to some sources, more than a hundred of them survived in Ukraine. The Kyiv regime made it clear that soon similar "kamikazes" would fly to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and other peaceful cities of Russia.

Another curious example of the use of a canard drone was shown by Iran. Thanks to the Toloue-4 turbojet engine, the Karrar UAV can reach a maximum speed of up to 900 km/h, fly up to 1000 km in the reconnaissance version and up to 400 km in the strike version. The Iranian "duck" is capable of being used against both ground and air targets. The Karrar bomber can carry two 500 kg laser-guided bombs, or one 1000 kg unguided bomb, or 4 Kowsar anti-ship missiles created in Iran based on Chinese developments, or one Nasr-1 anti-ship cruise missile based on the Chinese C-701. As an air interceptor against enemy drones, helicopters or even light aircraft, the Iranian drone can use air-to-air missiles with an infrared guidance head Azarakhsh, which are copies of the American AIM-9 Sidewinder, or the Akhgar 7,62-mm machine gun, an unlicensed clone of the American M134 Minigun.

Tu-300 "Korshun-U"

The most interesting thing is that both the Ukrainian "Strizh" and the Iranian Karrar have Soviet "genes". Now it may seem strange to someone, but the USSR was once a leader in the field of unmanned of technologies. A whole family of reconnaissance UAVs was created in the Tupolev Design Bureau, which include the aforementioned "Ukrainian" Tu-141 "Strizh", Tu-143 "Reis" and Tu-243 "Reis-D". Iranian Karrar is a kind of mix of Beechcraft MQM-107 Streaker, Denel Dynamics Skua and Tu-143 "Flight".

Of course, technologically, these Soviet UAVs are very outdated and cannot seriously compete with modern reconnaissance UAVs. However, in this family of Tupolev "ducks" there is one "bird" that could find a new life following the results of the NWO. This is the Tu-300 "Korshun-U", which also has modifications for conducting electronic intelligence ("Filin-1") and relaying radio signals ("Filin-2").

The Soviet attack drone Tu-300 was created as a single-engine aircraft according to the "duck" aerodynamic configuration. The head part of the UAV houses computing equipment and communication facilities. The combat load is located in the fuselage compartment and external hangers and can reach a total weight of 1000 kg. The used holder BD3-U allows you to place a wide range of guided and unguided aviation ammunition on the Korshun-U. The drone does not have a chassis, and the UAV is launched from a transport and launch container from a car chassis using two solid-fuel boosters, and landing is carried out using a parachute system located in the tail compartment. The Tu-300 was supposed to bomb targets using an inertial navigation system, which has its pros and cons.

In 2007, the Tupolev Design Bureau announced the return to work on this project:

Specialists have prepared proposals for improving the accuracy of the complex reaching the target, increasing its capabilities for conducting aerial reconnaissance.

How could the modernized Tu-300 be useful to the Russian army?

At first, one ton of combat load is quite serious. The ability to carry out bombing without risk to pilots is worth a lot in itself. But if the FAB-500 aerial bomb, which was recently equipped with a planning and correction module, could be placed on the suspension at the Korshun, then a lot of things could change for us on the battlefield for the better. It would be possible to send attack drones with a powerful aerial bomb on a suspension to difficult targets like railway bridges or protected bunkers behind enemy lines, capable of penetrating a thick reinforced concrete slab, dropping them without entering the enemy’s air defense coverage area. The efficiency of the bomber aircraft will then increase dramatically.

SecondlyBy equipping the Korshunov with modern control systems, homing air-to-air missiles and a rapid-fire machine gun, you can get a completely suitable “drone fighter”. The task is very urgent, taking into account the plans of the Kyiv regime to send Swifts to Russian peaceful cities.

Thus, the Tu-300 "Korshun-U" has the widest space for use in the event of its modernization and resumption of production.

Absolutely right, bringing down three or four spans is no problem. And there is something. There is just no order. Damage like this needs to be repaired for at least a month.
      Crimean bridge as an example.
And Ukraine for half a year, and if even geraniums for workers, then for years.
By the way, it is quite possible to suppress local air defense in a narrow area.
      An order is needed.

    well why not
you can still upgrade the tsar cannon, hang a sight, wheels on shock absorbers
if t 34 are preserved, then they can also be upgraded, hang heat and night vision, etc.

I ask you to clarify at the expense of "resumption of production", there is no reliable information that the Tu-300 has ever been mass-produced.
We must ... we must! ... but it seems that the spoon does not keep up with dinner.

Whatever one may say, there is an example of the destruction of bridges and this is in Kherson, but the support pillars survived, but it was impossible to operate the spans without a major overhaul, and if you count how many missiles were fired during the NWO, then even part of this would be quite enough. Yet the reason for their immunity is probably something else.

Tactical and technical characteristics of the complex "Dagger":
maximum range of destruction - 2000-3000 kilometers
      maximum speed - Mach 10-12
Circular Probable Deviation (CEP) - 1 meter
type of warhead - in conventional equipment or nuclear
      warhead mass - 500 kg
guidance - INS with the possibility of correction from the GLONASS system, AWACS, optical seeker
engine - solid propellant rocket engine

Those. what I would like to say: If the range of the missile is reduced from 2 thousand to 1 thousand km by reducing the amount of solid fuel, while increasing the warhead, probably to 1-2 tons, then bridges can be destroyed even with one missile if there is a desire. Or KVO is not 1 meter, but 50 meters?
I think this is the easiest way. And there is no need to establish aircraft production, which is a very long time. By the way, from the nearest territory of the Russian Federation (Bryansk region) to Kyiv is about 250 km.

First of all - to the kolyma of all saboteurs, perpetrators and thieves, with confiscation. Without this, there will be no sense anywhere.
    Because:
Now 23 years old. In the troops, according to the title, there is not a single one, although:

In 2007, Tupolev Design Bureau announced the return to work on this project.

Those. development for 30 years. 16 years of development only in completely independent Russia. How much money has been spent. (the stump is clear, how much is not recognized). The end of development is not written.
    Zero results.

Shut off supplies. Turn western Ukraine into what the Donbass was turned into. Ato is cherished as if for sale ... perhaps things will go better. If you do nothing, then it makes sense to arm yourself and defend yourself without fighting supplies !!!!! The cruiser "Moskva", the Crimean bridge, the schools of the Donbass. Is this not enough to act more boldly and decisively? Or are we waiting for it to arrive in Moscow?
In the West, neither us nor our children will be spared!!!!!

    1. To bring the kite to mind - more than one year. Now we need to fight with what we have or on the way. Who that managed - that and well done. The US says it can arrange for the release of 155mm shells in the quantities Ukraine needs. But after two years. And who is interested? Ukraine will fight them, the USA, Europe... It is necessary now.
    2. Like any subsonic vehicle, of considerable size, without STEALTH technology, the Kite will not reach the bridge. They will shoot down.
    3. And most importantly. Bridges need a solution. They don't want to blow them up. The reasons may be different. I have my own version, others have a different one. Putin has the most correct one, because it is up to him to decide.
    4. There is a Dagger missile. It can destroy any bridge on the territory of Ukraine. QUO - 1 метр. At least in the middle of the span, at least in the support. Dagger doesn't care.
It will be necessary - they will collapse.
    5. If there is a solution, destroying the bridge is not a problem.
    https://t.me/rybar/41203
The bridge in Cherkassy (across the Dnieper) was destroyed on June 26. On November 12, it was not restored, and so far it has not been heard that it has been restored.

I read your articles with pleasure, but this one ... is not even noodles on the ears, but something more serious like bridges are not killed. If you read books about the Second World War, then you should know that then there were very few aircraft with a carrying capacity of 1 (one) ton (Tu-4, Er-2, well, a couple more), mostly 500kg, that is, 2 * 250 in which explosives 150-180kg, bombed and destroyed. For the lack of explosives, 100 kg was enough for the partisans. Don't you believe it? ask Sidor Kovpak in the comments here, he won’t let you lie. Caliber has 450kg, other missiles have 300-500kg, is it not enough? or when the explosives did something they didn’t report (that is, they stole it) and there is no power, and besides the Dnieper bridges, there are enough others on smaller rivers. So do not retell stupid tales, spoil your image

Nike, you read his articles with pleasure simply because you don’t understand that he writes such nonsense all the time. :-) I only read it to laugh. :-) "... a powerful aerial bomb, FAB-500." :-) There is only one answer why we cannot effectively use the "Dagger", "Caliber" or "Iskander". No one knows how to explain to a rocket where the object of destruction, the same bridge, for example, is located. Some experts say that the problem is in the corner reflectors installed by the enemy in the area of such objects, but again, this is to amuse me and others like me, not otherwise :-)

What does it mean that it was not possible to suppress air defense? It's just that no one suppressed it, it is destroyed in a maximum of 2 weeks. In the first two weeks of the operation, our bombers were deployed throughout the entire territory of Ukraine, including the western one. And now we have waited for the supply of Western air defense and continue not to suppress air defense. When will the already incompetent garbage from the command be thrown out?

We have already been called upon to "learn" from North Korea, after this country demonstrated a 600-mm MLRS, but I will point to South Korea as an example ... and specifically the Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile! I think it's just what the doctor ordered! A missile with a length of 15-16 meters and a "caliber" of 1,6 meters can throw a warhead of approx. tons over a distance of over 3000 (up to 3500 km!) or from 8 to 9 tons over a distance of 300 km! And if you consider that the earlier "Hyunmoo" -new warheads reach both 2 tons and 4 tons ...; then you get a "wunderwaffle" for every taste and need! Russia can not bow to South Korea! So how the Union had the RSD-10 "Pioneer" missile complex! Here, you can, perhaps, "experiment" on it! Such a thing will always come in handy! And in case of a nuclear war ... and non-nuclear!

They will certainly be able to deliver the warhead necessary to destroy it to the same bridge.

On the one hand, a 1000 kg warhead for a kamikaze drone is not bad.
However, such a drone is not very suitable for infrastructure facilities deep behind enemy lines. For the range of 200 km for these purposes in the NWO in Ukraine is on average not enough. And to reach the target, due to anti-aircraft defense, a subsonic 3-ton UAV with a turbojet engine and without radar stealth technologies has little chance.
Perhaps a drone with a warhead of 1 ton would be suitable for strikes against front-line fortified areas. By reducing the range, it would be possible to somewhat strengthen the warhead. A relatively short range and one UAV repeater would allow the use of video guidance by the operator on the final section of the trajectory (which would be useful in case of GLONASS jamming by the enemy).

      PS
There are already known attempts to use the Armed Forces of Ukraine converted 5-ton Tu-141s as kamikaze drones at the Russian air base in Engels.
The attempts were generally unsuccessful, because the UAVs were shot down by the powerful air defense of the strategic object. Let's leave the question of where these drones were launched from. We note only the high power of the explosions.
What practical conclusion can be drawn here for the Russian side? Until the NMD is completed with a Russian victory, in every possible way to oppose attempts to create and use these Ukrainian "flying 3-ton bombs", but think about your own prospects for this direction, about finding a niche for this type of heavy precision weapons.

The author needs to have a conscience.
How then was the Crimean bridge built? There was no nuclear strike, but it turned out quite effectively.
Other bridges are the same. It turns out that bridges were built well in the USSR, but badly in Russia.
Bridges are not deliberately destroyed so that more Russian soldiers die. And it's all on the conscience of the commander in chief. The cost of calibers was equated to the cost of thousands !!! Russian soldiers. Received by bridges and railway stations, military equipment KILLED thousands of Russian soldiers. If she had not been taken to the front, then the soldiers and officers would have remained to live and Ukraine would have surrendered long ago. And so FOR WHAT they laid down their and other people's lives.

Unfortunately, the path of the revival of the "Kite" proposed by the author is unrealistic. BSR "Strizh" is a serial, physically existing aircraft. Some improvements were made on it, which made it possible to turn it actually into a cruise missile. The Korshun UAV is an important, but one of the components of the Stroy-F front-line unmanned aircraft complex being developed in the interests of the Air Force. Autonomous flight tests of several UAV prototypes were carried out using a non-standard ground control center and launcher. Work on this complex has long been stopped, the design departments have been disbanded, and many of the developers are no longer with us. Therefore, there is nothing to revive, and no one.
Today it is necessary to bring to mind those strike unmanned systems that are close to completion, and not start new R&D. Even R&D does not need to be opened, because. all the methods of combat use of drones that we see today during the SVO were described by specialists from the Ministry of Defense and defense research institutes 30 years ago. At the same time, the question arose whether it was realistic to make an UAV in the size of a dragonfly with flapping wings, and twenty years later such an apparatus was made, but not by us.
And about the unmanned interceptor. In the early 70s of the last century, the Air Force issued TTZ to the aviation industry for an unmanned fighter. But the industry refused. I could not decide what place to define a person in this system and how it will differ from the anti-aircraft missile system. But no one began to make a radio-controlled Tu-128.

I wanted to draw attention to an error that wanders from one Internet source to another. "Kite" is made according to the aerodynamic scheme "tailless with front horizontal tail (PGO)" and not according to the "duck" scheme. In the "duck" scheme, the PGO is used for pitch control, and in the "tailless with an uncontrolled destabilizer" scheme - for balancing at supersonic speeds, reducing the landing angle of attack and for creating a vortex sheet for the main wing. But outwardly both schemes look the same. Tu-141 "Strizh", Tu-143 "Reis", passenger Tu-144, the famous Sukhovskaya "weave" were made according to the "tailless" scheme.
The Filin-1/2 drone has never been developed by anyone. Thus, the legend was carried out for display at the exhibitions of the reconnaissance version of the "Kite". It was planned that various reconnaissance equipment from the BKR-3 (Sych) complex of the Su-27R reconnaissance aircraft would be installed on the Korshun-R.
The suspended universal reconnaissance container "Sych" for the Su-34 aircraft developed by the Research Institute "Kulon" was put into service in the middle of the second decade of the 21st century. By this time, the enterprise had long since disbanded the divisions that were the lead in the development of unmanned aerial systems of the "Stroy" line. And on the vacated areas, the Lanit Group of Companies was located.

This author just has some kind of fixed idea - By all means, they are simply obliged to destroy the bridges. If this doesn’t work out, then it’s necessary with this, if they don’t blow it up either, then ... in short, soon, in his maniac whim, he will offer to use an atomic bomb, and then the bridges will definitely be ruined! The author can already stop offering one idea more stupid than another, huh? Maybe it's time to think with your head and understand that if it were necessary to destroy ALL bridges in Ukraine, they would be destroyed in one day. Maybe it's time to try to at least think about - If the bridges are not destroyed while having all the necessary means, then perhaps this is done for some purpose about which I (and any other who have no idea about tactics or strategy in this or that another military operation) is simply not given to know? Well, guess what advantage our troops will have when attacking the right bank with or without bridges. That's what you need to write about, and not about how to destroy everything without a mind, just to destroy it and at the same time hide behind pseudo-patriotic indignation about the death of our soldiers with bridges. But without bridges, no one would die, right?
