Whatever European opponents of Nord Stream-2 say, Russian gas is not just in demand in Europe. Behind him is already a queue in which not everyone has enough space.

Gazprom Export CEO Elena Burmistrova, while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Verona, said that Gazprom already has applications from European consumers for an additional 50 billion cubic meters. m per year over the contracted volume.

According to the head, it was precisely the increase in demand in Europe for Russian natural gas that was the impetus for the implementation of the Turkish Stream and Nord Stream-2 projects, since the existing gas pipelines are no longer able to pump the required volume. The commissioning of new gas pipelines is expected in late 2019 - early 2020.

Earlier, Gazprom’s deputy chairman of the board, Alexander Medvedev, in an interview with one of the specialized Russian publications, said that the current level of Russian gas exports is 190-200 billion cubic meters. m per year has become a new reality of the European market and this situation will continue for the next few years.

According to forecasts of European analysts, the share of Russian gas in the European market in the next 15-20 years will continue to grow and by 2035 it will reach 38-41%.
