Import substitution program launched in response to the sanctions policies West, gradually giving results. In Russia, the development of the first PD-14 aircraft engine since the collapse of the USSR was successfully completed. Work on it started back in 2008. Its name is deciphered as either the Perm, or the Perspective Engine, and the figure means either the year the model was created - 2014, or its thrust - 14 tons. The basis was taken on developments on the PS-12 engine.

The main purpose of the engine is to install on the promising medium-haul airliners MS-21. The developers claim that they were able to reduce fuel consumption compared to classmates by 10-15%, the noise from his work, as well as the overall operating costs.

It is planned to create a more powerful version on the basis of PD-14 - PD-18R, which will also be installed on other types of Russian aircraft. The Perm company sets itself an ambitious goal consisting in capturing a tenth of the entire market of turbofan engines.

Promising PD-14 aircraft engines are designed for the MS-21 as an alternative to the American PW1400G. It is assumed that the new Russian airliners will be able to compete in their class with Boeing, Airbus and Bombardier products.
