February 26, Ukraine became a member of the UN Human Rights Council. This was announced by the president of the country Petro Poroshenko. The status of a member of the UN Human Rights Council is granted to the state for a period of three years. Although formally a member of the Council can be any country - a member of the UN, in reality this right is not provided to everyone.

Now hold on: Ukraine has become a member of the UN Human Rights Council

For example, in 2011 Libya's membership was suspended, in the same year Syria was forced to abandon plans to become a member of the Human Rights Council.

Kiev declares that it will defend human rights in the new status throughout the world, primarily in the Crimea and the Donbass. This statement alone shows the whole bias of Ukraine’s position on membership in the Council.

In fact, granting this status to Ukraine raises many questions. Firstly, in the Donbass, the fighting has been going on for the fifth year, accompanied by cleansing of the civilian population. Secondly, Kiev systematically violates the rights of foreign-language (Russian, Hungarian, Romanian, etc.) groups of the population on the territory of Ukraine, condones the activities of radical nationalist organizations. Finally, the Ukrainian authorities were involved in the repression of journalists, opposition politicians, and possibly - to political assassinations.
