Icebreaker "Leader": the cost and terms of laying
In order for Russia to be able to reach a new level in the development of the Arctic and turn the Northern Sea Route into a standard route from Asia to Europe, it needs a reliable icebreaker fleet. To do this, it is planned to build three new icebreakers of the Leader project at the shipyards of the country.
According to media reports, an interdepartmental group chaired by Yuri Borisov made calculations according to which one icebreaker would cost 98,6 billion rubles to the country's budget. The allocation of funds will begin in 2020.
The Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation has finally decided on the enterprise that will be involved in the construction of the series. They became the shipyard "Star", which is located in the Far Eastern city of Bolshoi Kamen and is engaged in the construction of a large tanker fleet, repair and modernization of submarines of the Pacific Fleet.
It is assumed that the contract for the construction of the first icebreaker "Leader" will be signed in 2019, the ship will be laid down in 2020, and it will leave the slipways in 2027. The project will not attract funds from private investors.
Looking at how giant projects are being implemented in the country, like the Crimean bridge, there is no doubt that Russia will receive icebreakers according to the approved terms for their construction.
