Russia paid for its power

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, in an interview with Kommersant, made a statement that Western sanctions against the Russian Federation were established forever. In more detail, he remarked:

The revival of Russia's national identity usually leads to the rapid growth of its physical forces. At the instinct level in the West, no one ever liked it. Sanctions are the reaction of the old seasoned enemy to our gain. And they will be removed only if we again become weak. Therefore, for us, sanctions are a chance to show the best features of our national character

The politician, however, sees sanctions in positive aspects, since this is “a chance to show the best features of a national character”.

One of the measures to counter restrictions, which will minimize damage to the military industry, is the creation of the anti-sanction headquarters of the military-industrial complex board. Rogozin also noted that over the past five years, the export of Russian defense products has been increasing, despite the “undisguised rudeness” and “unprecedented pressure” on potential buyers of Russian weapons.

The work of our guys in charge of this area can be considered more than worthy.

- stated the deputy prime minister.

It should be recalled that the West imposed sanctions against Russia, mainly because of the return of Crimea to its home harbor. Further, any event, whether it was the crash of the Malaysian Boeing into the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the position of the Russian Federation on Syria or the ridiculous accusations of Moscow’s interference in the US presidential election, served as a pretext for extending or tightening sanctions.

The West sets the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine as the main condition for their removal (completely excluding the will of Crimeans). Which is impossible in principle. Firstly, this would mean the massacre of Ukrainian neo-Nazis over people who believed in Russia and overwhelmingly voted to return to its composition. Secondly, it would significantly weaken Russia's authority in the world, would show its weakness. And it’s not a fact that even after this, Western countries would have lifted sanctions from Russia. Moreover, the United States and its allies deal with the weak much more harshly.

Truly, it is better to be punished by the West for an independent position as a strong power than as a voiceless semi-colony that is unable to defend its interests, but with sanctions lifted.

Thus, if Russia is not going to become weak again and make endless concessions to the enemy, as it was in the 90s of the last century, Western sanctions can last forever. And you need to be prepared for this.

For his part, the deputy director of the Institute of History and policy Moscow State Pedagogical University Vladimir Shapovalov, commenting on Rogozin's interview with Sputnik radio station, expressed the opinion that it is too categorical to say that the sanctions will remain forever. However, it is obvious that they will remain for a long time. According to the political scientist, these restrictions are not connected with one specific thing, not even with the Crimean issue. And before that, there were all sorts of attacks on Russia: the Magnitsky list, the Jackson-Vanik amendment.

Shapovalov emphasized:

Sanctions are a central part of US policy towards countries that do not suit them. And the policy of Russia categorically does not suit the United States, because Russia has its own loud voice. Political, military, economic Russia's potential is growing, and all this greatly hinders the United States, hence the sanctions regime
