Iranian crews will sit at S-300 control panels in Syria
An interesting twist in the confrontation between Russia and Israel in Syria. As you know, Israeli aviation periodically conducts bombing raids on pro-Iranian armed forces in the SAR. The strategic goal of Tel Aviv is to squeeze out the military infrastructure of the Islamic Republic from Syrian territory. During one such raid, the Russian Il-20 was shot down with fifteen Russian soldiers on board as a result of the provocative maneuver of the Israeli Air Force pilot.
The Kremlin’s response to this act of aggression was the supply of Damascus S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, which should ensure the security of the Syrian sky from enemy aircraft. According to Israeli media reports, the IDF was not too impressed by the threat posed by the renewed air defense of Syria, since their effectiveness directly depends on the level of training of operators. While the Syrian colleagues are undergoing training, Russian troops are assigned to the S-300 as calculations. It was reported that during this period, Israeli aviation sharply decreased its activity, waiting for the Russians to leave.
However, the IDF’s hopes in the future to easily deal with inexperienced Syrians may not be justified. According to the specialized Israeli resource DEBKAfile, the control of the S-300 air defense system can be transferred not to Syrian, but to Iranian calculations, which have long been trained to use the S-300PMU-2 delivered by Moscow to Tehran in 2016. Immediately, British aviation sharply intensified intelligence activities regarding the readiness of the S-300 to repel air attacks.
Thus, without directly engaging in an armed conflict with Israel, Russia can firmly click Tel Aviv on the nose with the hands of allies from the Islamic Republic.
