Europe without a Russian trumpet - the epiphany of Britain and the fantasies of Poland

Despite the fact that not just negative, but extremely aggressive rhetoric of Great Britain towards Russia has recently become a familiar information background, it suddenly turns out that the voice of reason can sometimes even sound from London. At least - relatively purely economic issues and the real role of our country in the life of Europe. Unbelievable, but it is a fact!

Speaking at the Oil & Money 2018 conference in the English capital, the head of one of the world's largest corporations, British Petroleum, Bob Dudley not only criticized the very idea of introducing sanctions against the leading companies in the Russian energy sector, but also bluntly stated that the consequences would be disastrous. first of all, not at all for Moscow. In his opinion, subjecting Gazprom, Lukoil or Rosneft to the same tough restrictions that were adopted against Rusal means neither more nor less, but "shutting down the entire energy system of Europe"! Dudley naturally believes that this is "too much."

We are talking, of course, about the fears that the head of BP (and far from only one) is inexorably approaching the prospect of Washington realizing new, really draconian restrictions within the framework of the so-called DETER and DASKAA - sanctions bills introduced to the American Congress regarding “protection from the Kremlin’s aggression, both of the upcoming US elections, and, in general, of “American security.” Plus, in November, the “second package” of sanctions in the “Skripal case” may come into force. In all the cases listed above, it is a question of restrictions on not only the largest banks in Russia, but also its energy giants - first of all, those that Dudley listed in his speech.

The speech of this gentleman once again testifies to the fact that Britain does not have permanent friends or enemies, but only constant interests. A blow to the oil and gas sector of the Russian economy is a blow to British Petroleum, which currently has a package of almost 20% of shares in Rosneft! More than one hundred billion rubles in dividends received by BP over the past five years, the joint exploitation of the richest Siberian deposits and the exploration of new ones ... Naturally, Mr. Dudley has something to worry about and something to worry about. Oil billions are not tales of "poisoned" spies, you know, this is the reality for which Britain throughout its history went to any conflicts or compromises, depending on the circumstances. As you can see, as soon as business people in London start counting their own money, fantasy instantly turns off and a pragmatic mind comes to replace it.

Against this background, the claims made to Russia by the state, whose role and influence, frankly speaking, are completely incomparable with Britain, both on a European and global scale, look all the more absurd and absurd. Where other countries, albeit forcedly, recognize the indispensability of our country in the matter of providing Europe with energy resources, some try to repeat again and again about the “Russian threat”. So, Polish President Andrzej Duda once again criticized the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline under construction, in spite of all attempts to prevent it from being laid.

According to policy, this project “benefits only one country” and, in general, “undermines the foundations of European energy security”. Duda believes that in Europe, which is “based on shared values” for projects such as Nord Stream 2, there can be no place, in principle. At the same time, insightful speeches about “common European values” coming from Warsaw, which has recently been in constant confrontation with Brussels just because of the reluctance to implement common EU decisions (at least regarding the reception of migrants), look especially strange. In truth - frank hypocrisy and an attempt to shift their own problems, as they say, from a sore point to a healthy one.

However, Duda’s statements fade before the statements of Poland’s most probably registered Russophobe - former Minister of National Defense Anthony Matserevich. This figure, fully adhering to the presidential opinion about the “harmfulness” of the new Russian-European gas pipeline, managed to agree so that Warsaw will decide the fate of Nord Stream-2! That's right - and in all seriousness. Matserevich sincerely believes that Donald Trump will certainly “bury” this project with new anti-Russian sanctions. In his generously distributed interviews, he broadcasts that “relevant decisions are already on the table of the US president.” But whether they will be signed or not ... "depends on the position of Poland"!

For some reason, excuse me, the belligerent ex-minister imagined that Warsaw has the opportunity to dictate at least some kind of “decision” to the head of the White House, it is completely incomprehensible. But another thing is perfectly clear - Poland’s ambitions to take a “proper” place in Europe, becoming the main gateway to it for American LNG. And there, you look, and recall to some (the same Germany, for example!) Old and new insults.

Fortunately, Warsaw in reality is far from the capital of Europe. And the fateful decisions for such a decision will still not be Dudy and the Matserevichs, but people with a position that is much more realistic and reasonable.
