"Funnel on the nose": the Russian Ka-52 showed the landing cover with the Mi-8 in Ukraine

6

The professional qualities of Russian helicopter pilots are well known all over the world. Footage appeared on the Web showing how, during a special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, the Russian Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and attack helicopter covers its heavier multi-purpose counterparts Mi-8, which carry out a landing on Ukrainian territory.

It should be noted that the videos below show the “funnel on the nose” aerobatics performed by the crew of the Ka-52. While the Mi-8s are busy on the ground, the Alligator maneuvers and hangs next to them for protection.

The essence of the combat use of the “funnel on the nose” is to reduce the speed of the rotorcraft and fly sideways with the nose down, which allows you to keep a given area of the terrain described by the helicopter at gunpoint.

There is also an aerobatics "funnel on the tail" - the same thing, only in this case the nose is turned up, not the tail. In this position, the helicopter can effectively fire at flying objects.

It is the mixture of elements of aerobatics (the abilities of the helicopter itself and the skill of the crew), new types of weapons and other “stuffing” that makes the Ka-52 incredibly effective at any time of the year or day.

It should be added that on April 18, the Russian Ministry of Defense showed a video showing preparations for combat sorties and objective control of the work of the crews of Ka-52 helicopters of army aviation. At night, the eyes of the Ka-52 becomes a thermal imager. It allows you to see the hot engine of a tank or other type of armored vehicles at a distance of up to 10 km and hit the identified target with a 100% probability.

"Funnel on the nose": the Russian Ka-52 showed the landing cover with the Mi-8 in Ukraine

      - I can’t say anything about all these “Funnels on the nose” - I’m just not an expert in such matters!
      - But, to be honest, I always just feel fear when I see - so slow, "predictable in its actions" and seeming so vulnerable - this helicopter-helicopter (helicopter), flying at low altitude!
      - In our time - there are so many advanced air defense systems, and MANPADS; yes, even the antediluvian "Shilka"; yes even DShK; yes, even an ordinary machine gun (7,62 mm); Yes, even the RPG-7 - all this weapons can quite easily "get" such a slow and low-maneuverable "target"!
      - It is also surprising that our helicopters practically do not shoot heat traps! - Or is it just useless - because they fly at such a low altitude - that it won't work against the Stinger and other MANPADS! - Yes, helicopter pilots can see - do not take courage !!!

Dear Irina! I propose to play a game: take 2 tennis balls and stand in the center of the circle, and place ten friends with the same balls around the perimeter of the circle. At the same time, 2 people in succession start throwing balls at you! Try to hit a person throwing balls at you when balls are always flying at you, and this can be painful! The purpose of "Funnel on the nose" is to prevent the one in the center of the funnel from aiming and shooting!

Before writing about your surprises, study the materiel of the Ka-52 - then you will understand that the Stingers and other missiles with infrared guidance systems are useless due to the built-in protection "Vitebsk". Accordingly, infrared / heat traps are the last century.

          - Here is a "wise guy" - so "wise guy"!
          - Yes, what are you saying - at such a low altitude (distance) you can simply - as from an ordinary grenade launcher, shoot and shoot down with the help of the Stinger - too! - It's almost like ... like ... like from a cannon of the "Borodino times" - to fire a shot at any modern car or helicopter !!! - Or will a cannonball bounce off a modern cockpit and do no harm? - Yes, even just one dynamic impact with a cannonball on the body - it will do such things - and here is a whole stinger destructive grenade!
          - Well, let's leave the "Stingers" alone!
          - But what about "Shilka"; DShK; RPG-7; just a "Cliff" machine gun, any PK (7,62 mm) with armor-piercing incendiary cartridges; Yes, our "Arrow"; and even "Javelin"; yes, a whole bunch of all import deliveries (MANPADS) for these purposes ???
          - A, mister "smart guy" ??? - What will be the answer???

The article with "tail funnels" is replicated on many resources. They even dragged the Mi-28.
      How we love every nonsense!
