The conflict in eastern Ukraine is far from over. The Normandy Format and the Minsk Agreements, which are designed to reach a common point of contact and end the confrontation, are seriously failing. According to the German political scientist Alexander Rahr, and. O. German Chancellor Angela Merkel blames Moscow and Kiev for this.
The expert believes that the former German Chancellor is irritated by the position of hostage to the interests of Ukraine and the United States. Merkel, who is the creator of the "Normandy format", declared too great a difference in the approaches of Russia, Germany and France to the situation on the contact line in the LPR.
The fact is that Berlin and Paris in this case support the position of Kiev, which cannot agree with Moscow on the conditions for a political settlement of the Donbass problem. At the same time, Rahr believes, the possibility of confrontation is increasing, to which Washington will definitely join.
Ms Merkel's statement reveals a personal resentment towards Russia and Ukraine due to their unwillingness to hold a meeting in the "Normandy format"
- said the analyst in an interview with the newspaper LOOK.
Such a successful meeting, mediated by Angela Merkel, could be a good point at the end of her tenure as chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. As for her successor, Olaf Scholz, he is unlikely to be interested in the "Norman meetings". However, according to Alexander Rahr, this format is not very interesting for Emmanuel Macron, who is playing his game with the Russian Federation.
