Ukraine intends to protect borders on the Black and Azov Seas with the help of OCEA FPB 98 boats

In the spring of 2022, the first patrol boat of the OCEA FPB 98 type is expected to arrive in Ukraine for the State Border Service. This was announced on October 29 by the new head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky during his visit to the shipyard of the French company OCEA.

Information on this matter was posted by the Communications Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on the agency's website. The communiqué specifies that the minister "inspected the boat construction process", which is being carried out within the framework of the contract between the OCEA company (specializing in the construction of luxury yachts) from France and the State Border Guard Service. According to the head of the department, these boats are urgently needed by the Marine Guard of the State Border Guard Service to ensure the protection of Ukraine's borders at sea in the Azov-Black Sea basin.

Already next month, the first boat will be launched, factory tests of our vessel will be carried out. In the spring we are waiting for him in Odessa. In addition, the Ukrainian crew of this boat will undergo appropriate training, and we will also prepare technical service personnel

Said the minister.

Monastyrsky stressed that an important condition of the three-year contract is the fact that 5 out of 20 boats will be manufactured in Ukraine (at the Nibulon shipyard in Nikolaev). This will allow in the future to independently service boats and develop domestic production.

We remind you that the story with these boats began with the trip of the previous head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov to Paris in November 2019, where he signed a framework intergovernmental agreement with his French counterpart. In March 2020, it was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada. The French government and European bankers decided to finance the construction of boats in the amount of 136,5 million euros. In July 2020, in Nikolaev, on the territory of the aforementioned Nibulon enterprise, a contract was signed to implement a Ukrainian-French project to strengthen the maritime security system and guard the Ukrainian border.
