People's Artist of Yakutia Leonardo DiCaprio is sounding the alarm

Leonardo DiCaprio on his Instagram page published a post dedicated to the Yakut frosts. He said that recently in the small village of Oymyakon, lost in the vast expanses of Yakutia, a temperature of -62 degrees was recorded!

Leonardo called on the world to save the Republic of Sakha from frost

DiCaprio expressed his concern about the fate of the unfortunate inhabitants of the village of Oymyakon, experiencing this unprecedented drop in temperature. After all, in his opinion, it poses a serious threat to their lives. The actor said that such severe frosts have not been recorded in Yakutia over the past 15 years.

The chief Yakut weather forecaster Alexander Arzhakov assured Leonardo that the Oscar-winning actor had no reason to worry. He assured him that -60 for Oymyakon, who bears the title of the coldest settlement on Earth, is not uncommon. Locals are accustomed to abnormal living conditions and tolerate such frosts superbly. Moreover, now the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has almost summer warmth. During the day, the temperature does not fall below minus 24 degrees.

The actor can hardly be called sissy, because he is not afraid of the cold. After all, he had to freeze in the Atlantic waters during the crash of the Titanic, and spend the night in the cold in the belly of a dead horse in Survivor. Well, he also saved the world a couple of times, etc.

One could just smile ironically and forget about this story, but a couple of questions arise. Why does the famous actor take such a hot part in the fate of Yakutia? And why did his statements provoke an instant response in Yakutia?

Although Leonardo has never been to the Republic of Sakha, he is very warm in this remote Russian region, and there are good reasons for this.

Yakut Oscar

Leonardo DiCaprio is immensely grateful to the women of Yakutia who were able to fulfill the actor’s long-held dream. After all, he received his first Oscar not from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts, but namely from his Yakut fans.

Over the years of work in the cinema, Leonardo was repeatedly nominated for this prestigious award, but could not become its laureate. And then his fans from Yakutia in 2016 collected their silver jewelry, some of which were passed down from generation to generation, and ordered local jewelers to make a figurine for the beloved actor. About 1,5 kilograms of silver was collected and 3 grams of gold were trimmed.

The figure turned out to be original. Its height was 30 centimeters, and weight - 3 kg. The face of the Oscars has typical Mongoloid features. His gaze is fixed on the sky, and in his hands he holds a “choroon” - a Yakut ritual vessel.

The artist was deeply touched by such a recognition of his talent and a sincere expression of love from his distant fans.

He expressed his appreciation to them and posted the photo of the figurine on Instagram. And soon he received the long-awaited Oscar of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts for the main role in the film "Survivor."

After this incident, Leonardo DiCaprio and the Republic of Sakha have a warm relationship. He can be called a real national artist of Yakutia, even if he does not officially bear this title.
