The launch of Nord Stream 2 will make it impossible to operate the Ukrainian gas transportation system in its current form

On the eve of the start of operation of Nord Stream 2, Ukraine once again expresses concern about the further implementation of Ukrainian transit. In this regard, some experts draw attention to the impossibility of operating the local GTS in the event that a new gas pipeline is launched on the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

In particular, this opinion was expressed by Olga Belkova, Director for Interaction with Government Bodies and International Organizations of the "Operator of the GTS of Ukraine". She also believes that with the existing gas transportation system, Kiev will not be able to facilitate access to fuel storage facilities in Ukraine for other participants in the European gas market. In addition, trade in "blue fuel" with the EU countries and the prospects for transporting hydrogen fuel to European consumers will be questionable.



During the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week, Vladimir Putin also spoke about the Ukrainian GTS, pointing out the inadequate quality of the "pipe". According to him, the country's gas transportation system is 80 percent worn out and will not be able to fully participate in fuel supplies. In this regard, the Russians insist on the early launch of a new pipeline, which will be able to smooth out the problems in the European gas market.

At the same time, the Ukrainian company is confident that, in accordance with European legislative norms, the Nord Stream 2 operator should not be associated with Gazprom - thus, the monopoly on the part of the Russian gas concern will be excluded.

Earlier, the GTS Operator of Ukraine and Naftogaz have already submitted their applications to the German energy regulator for participation in the certification of SP-2.
