It turns out that there is such a country 600 km west of Senegal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, in the hot subtropics (Senegal is already a familiar name for many - this is the place where the famous Paris-Dakar rally finishes). Until 1986, this state bore a different name - Cape Verde Islands, however, the world community learned about the renaming only many years later, in 2013, when the official delegation of Cape Verde to the UN brought this fact to the whole world (I already hear voices that about you've already heard something about them, but I'm sure you didn't know where they are).

The Cape Verde Islands are an archipelago of 10 large and 8 small islands in the central part of the Atlantic Ocean, conditionally subdivided into the Leeward and Windward groups. A former Portuguese colony that gained independence in 1975. A mild climate (practically unchanging average annual temperature of + 25 ° C) is a tourist's dream. Lyapota! (Lovers of diving and windsurfing know this). The official language is Portuguese, by the way, it is on it that Cape Verde sounds like Cape Verde (port. Cabo Verde). The capital is Praia. The form of government is a parliamentary republic (there is also a president, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, and a government with Prime Minister Ulisses Correia and Silva). The total area of ​​the territory is 4 thousand square meters. km. Population - 583 thousand people. By the way, GDP (in PPP) per capita is $ 7320 (Ukraine can envy!).



What did I remember about this country? The fact is that, by his decree, Putin appointed Natalia Poklonskaya, ex-deputy of the State Duma from the United Russia faction, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation (you know what she was doing before). She did not earn Lavrov for herself in the State Duma, on the contrary, she was noted for several extravagant statements and non-systemic behavior (she was the only one from the pro-government faction that refused to vote for raising the retirement age, after which she lost the post of head of the Commission on the Income of Deputies). As a result, the State Duma rejected it, and United Russia did not prolong its status for the next term. After the end of her deputy career, Natalia was left out of work, so the appointment as an ambassador to a subtropical country can be considered as a very good honorary exile. True, Natalya herself does not consider this a link.


She stated that it is a great honor and responsibility for her to the country. This appointment was "long-awaited" and now her only plans are to get to the host country and look around (by the way, at the moment she is already in place and has begun to perform her official duties). Poklonskaya refused to comment on whose initiative it was to transfer her to this job. She also stated that she had sought the appointment and found it strange that to some it seemed like a link.

On this occasion, the speaker of the local Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko, said that Poklonskaya, who is accused of high treason in Ukraine, will not be able to hide from Ukrainian justice in Africa either:

One could laugh once again at the non-brothers, inviting them to send their bailiffs to the islands, accompanied by a special forces detachment, if not for one more "but" ... A few days ago, the authorities of this very island state successfully extradited to the States a citizen of Venezuela, businessman Alex Saab at the request of the US Department of Justice. He is accused of money laundering in the interests of the regime of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whom Washington does not recognize as the legitimate head of state. At the same time, Saab had the diplomatic status of Venezuela's special envoy to the African Union.

The extradition of Saab was announced on Saturday 16 October by Cape Verdean radio. This decision was made a month earlier by the local Constitutional Court. The businessman was arrested on an international warrant issued by the US Department of Justice at the airport on Sal Island last June, when his private jet landed there for refueling en route from Venezuela to Iran. Caracas then made an official protest, referring to the diplomatic status of the detainee, but the authorities of Cape Verde, as can be seen from the decision of the Constitutional Court, did not take their arguments into account. As a result, on the evening of the same day, a US Department of Justice plane specially sent for him landed at Miami International Airport (Florida), from where the detainee was escorted to a local prison. What does the American Themis sew for him? Saab is the prime suspect for controlling a vast network in the service of Nicolas Maduro through the CLAP program to distribute food to the population of Venezuela. Sheer nonsense against what the Ukrainian Themis sews to the citizen of Poklonskaya.

Why is Russia so substituted, I do not know. One can, of course, hope that no extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors will be issued. But Saab was also not a pizza delivery man. Now he is steaming on American bunks. What levers of pressure does Moscow have on Praia? I don’t think more than Washington. Why should they give one more reason to put pressure on us, I cannot understand. The Kremlin's ill-wishers have already commented on this step of Moscow in their characteristic manner: "Jesuitical, however, Putin's move" (I keep the author's style). Although maybe there will be a reason to send a couple of ships of the Russian Navy to the shores of Cape Verde on a friendly visit? But the officer of the JCCC of the LPR, recently captured and held by the Ukrainian side, does not give me something optimistic and does not give me a reason for jokes.
