Russian pedophiles will be imprisoned for life
The Russian government and the Supreme Court have come out in support of the bill submitted to the State Duma by United Russia deputies Alexander Khinstein and Pavel Krasheninnikov. According to the document, the capital punishment currently in force in Russia - life imprisonment - will be applied to recidivist pedophiles.
Criminals who have killed two or more children will also be imprisoned for life. If the crime was associated with other grave or especially grave articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court will again have the right to apply the capital punishment.
The support of the bill by the government and the Supreme Court guarantees almost 100% adoption of the law by the State Duma.
To date, Article 134 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Pedophilia" implies imprisonment for a term of 4 to 15 years, and from 15 to 20 years for repeat offenders.
Earlier, the Minister of Justice of Russia Konstantin Chuichenko announced the need to prevent the replacement of the real term of imprisonment with forced labor for convicted pedophiles. Today, the ministry is developing legal barriers to this.
