The world media are intrigued: Why is the “Russian Tsar” going to Germany?

The focus of the world media is the upcoming visit of “Tsar Vladimir” to Germany tomorrow and his meeting with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel. Moreover, on the way to Berlin, the head of the Russian state also intends to pay a private visit to Austria - for the wedding of the head of the foreign ministry of this country for the wedding of Karin Kneisl.

Before starting negotiations, Merkel and Putin should make brief statements to the press, from which it may be clear what the parties intend to talk about. So far, the world media can only make assumptions.

Of course, Putin and Merkel will not ignore Syria - especially since earlier Merkel even interrupted her vacation in order to discuss with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov the issue of Syrian refugees. And the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, expecting that the conversation will go on his country, contacted Mrs Merkel by phone. Surely the leaders of Russia and Germany will touch on the topic of Nord Stream 2. Perhaps another important issue will be raised, which could bring Moscow and Berlin very close together. It refers to American restrictive measures against various countries.

The German business publication Handelsblatt published an article entitled "The Ice Age Between Germany and Russia Comes to an End Thanks to Trump." The newspaper believes that a breakthrough from the meeting can hardly be expected, but the ice in the relationship may melt due to the American policy restrictions. For example, Turkey may be affected. And in Germany there are many Turks. Thus, for Merkel, this is a question not only of foreign, but also of domestic policy.

Meanwhile, the rating of the German Chancellor is falling. In Dresden, on the eve of a protest rally against the migration policy of the authorities. In addition, most German citizens, according to opinion polls, would like to normalize relations with Russia. If negotiations with Putin succeed, this could positively affect Merkel’s reputation.
